Nadrazi Stara Hut, Picture 2
Description:
When we returned to Prague, rather than taking the bus, we opted for the train. We didnt embark from Dobris, but this came close to my longstanding desire to bash the branch to Dobris, minus the final stop at Dobris. This was the crossing at Stara Hut, where we did embark, and it was one of the crudest crossings Ive ever seen, with only a stop sign and not even a pair of crossbucks.

Nadrazi Vrane nad Vltavou
Description:
I had been to Vrane nad Vltavou at least twice before, once on the steam trip to Tynec in 2005, and again on my first trip to Cercany, on which I took the more roundabout, scenic route over this branch, instead of the electrified main for Ceske Budejovice.

Old Telegraph Pole, B&W Version
Description:
The remains of old infrastructure can still be seen on many Czech branchlines, including in some cases telegraph poles. This one had leaned slightly, although for what reason wasnt clear to me. Maybe it was just shifting earth.

CD 163019-3 Pan at Nadrazi Hostivar
Description:
Although a large number of trains, including expresses, stop at Hostivar, and there's some freight switching action, too, there are also plenty of expresses that don't stop, and plenty of through freights, allowing for pan shots, albeit at modest speeds. Here's #163019-3 with a container freight.

CD 163088-8 Pan at Nadrazi Hostivar
Description:
Its also possible to pan arriving passenger trains at Hostivar if you get lucky or know roughly where theyll stop. In general, Hostivar offers a pretty wide and unobstructed view of the tracks, at least for the moment. Subsequent corridor upgrades may change this, but for the moment the station still looks like this.

Old Trafika and Possible Ex-Smokestack at Nadrazi Hostivar
Description:
Ive never been able to figure out if this smokestack on display is real or not. It appears to be partly made out of cement or concrete at this point, and the top is plugged. I remember when the tabak behind it was open, I think, but nowadays its abandoned.

Title:
Nadrazi Franze Kafky (Holesovice) Sign (date is a guess)
Description:
This station name actually dates to 2007, if Im not mistaken. I remember first seeing this sign coming back to Prague in 2008 from Christmas Break, and it must have gone up before the break, of course. Realising their blunder, however (Kafka wrote stories about hellish bureaucracy and mismanagement), Ceske Drahy quickly removed these signs from inside the rail station proper, or covered the name in tape, rather. This sign, at the bus station end, was allowed to stay, however, so although I kicked myself for not getting the signs in the station earlier, I was able to get a photo of this sign as a last resort.

Ex-CSD 475.179
Description:
I originally had no idea what this locomotive was because the photo was so blurred, but eventually I found the info that I needed. This is Ex-CSD 475.179, which is an operable 475 Class 4-8-2 based at Decin, as seen here. I don't have the exact build date, but it would have been sometime between 1947 and 1950. The power rating is 1480kW (1985 horsepower), and the maximum speed is officially 100Km/h, although obviously a locomotive this powerful with medium-size drivers could probably do more.

Metro Train at Haje
Description:
The Sony Ericsson W302 may only be a cameraphone, but it does have some low-light capability that even 400 ISO film cant match. Im not sure what its maximum ISO is, but if I had to guess I would say something between 400 and 800. Basically, you can shoot pictures on the Prague Metro with it, unlike with 400 ISO film, but you cant stop the motion of the trains like you can with 800 ISO film.

Express Passing Nadrazi Hostivar

It isnt clear to me whether this was a Eurocity or a national "Rychlik" or Express train. The lighting was too bad to get the number, the train was a through express train not listed on the trainboard, and of course my cameraphone has crap resolution. Express Passing Nadrazi Hostivar, Picture 2

Heres the second shot of the runby. The blue coach actually isnt a coach, but a diner or sleeper (I cant tell which) operated by JLV, a private rail services contractor. Since JLV specialise in running diners (or restaurant cars in European terminology), Im assuming its a diner.

Tankers in Cercany
Description:
This shot was in some ways a lucky shot, since I like how it looks, in some ways not. Really what I wanted to do was get a shot of that black tanker over by the cantenary mast, as it had, Im not making this up, GATX markings. Apparently, GATX expanded their operations to Europe some time ago, and Ive seen a lot of their stuff rolling around.

Although Masarykovo Nadrazi hasnt been given as much corridor upgrade work as many other stations, it is nevertheless getting a little bit of attention in the form of the new trainboard and whatever that scaffolding on the canopy is for. I expect that there will be more work soon, but what it will entail I dont know.

Crossing Near Slapy
Description:
Later during the Slapy trip, we had to stop at this crossing. Regrettably, I dont remember where this was, as I consider this one of my favorite train photos this year. The location is made especially mysterious by the fact that the nearest electrified line to Slapy is the Prague-Ceske Budejovice mainline, which doesnt have too many City Elephants running on it yet.
