CD 749006-3 at Praha Hlavni Nadrazi
Title:  CD 749006-3 at Praha Hlavni Nadrazi
Description:  Here my train is waiting to leave Hlavni Nadrazi on the first leg of my trip to Litomerice, mostly on advice on my Lonely Planet guidebook. Ive been trying to check off the more important historic cities and attractions in the Czech Republic, one by one, and because I was starting to run out of ideas I decided to do some research. This first connection to Vsetaty would actually take me through unelectrified territory, so thats why we ended with with a Class 749 diesel.

CD 751382-3
Title:  CD 751382-3
Description:  While waiting for my next train in Vsetaty, I saw a lot of interesting rail equipment, and found that it was an absolutely great place to watch trains, both freight and passenger. This Class 751 diesel, #751382-3, already had the new CD Cargo logo on the nose.

CD 753211-2 at Nadrazi Vsetaty
Title:  CD 753211-2 at Nadrazi Vsetaty
Description:  Just after boarding my train, I spotted this Class 753 "Bespectacled" diesel, one of the few times Ive actually been able to get a good photo of one. In this case, I especially like it, as the high-contrast black and white film makes it look even more retro.

CD Freight Train
Title:  CD Freight Train
Description:  Eventually, I decided to walk onto one of the bridges over the River Labe to get a more panoramic view of the city, but another advantage was that I got this series of freight train photos, all of them brutal-looking enough to remind me of the Mohawk Division, even if the mainline through Litomerice is electrified and the Mohawk Division is not.

Title:  ex-CD 740561-6 at Praha-Cakovice
Description:  740561-6 is no longer painted for Ceske Drahy, so I assume that it is no longer an official CD unit. If I had to guess, its most likely been bought or leased by a construction contractor.

Light Crane
Title:  Light Crane
Description:  One oddity that I saw in Vsetaty was this light crane. Im not sure what it would be able to lift on a railway, given how heavy everything tends to be, but it looks like this one was being used to handle track ties (sleepers in British English), which in my experience weigh 300lbs. or less if theyre wood. In this case, though, pretty much all of the ties, but in use and disused, appeared to be concrete, meaning that they would be considerably heavier.

Nadrazi Nerotovice
Title:  Nadrazi Nerotovice
Description:  Another interesting station, and a junction, on this route is Neratovice. Notice the stub end platform with the rare Class 809 railbus awaiting its next turn (the vast majority of Czech railbuses are the nearly-identical 810 Class).

Nadrazi Praha Cakovice
Title:  Nadrazi Praha Cakovice
Description:  The first stop on this trip, while not a change, was Cakovice, a suburb of Prague which I had visited by bus before, but not by train. Its a fair-sized station with a yard, that nevertheless has not yet been electrified.

Nadrazi Vsetaty
Title:  Nadrazi Vsetaty
Description:  Nadrazi Vsetaty is a little bit unusual in that it is sort of placed in the middle of a railyard instead of to the side of it. Im not even sure how people are supposed to get to it to catch their trains other than by crossing the tracks, which seems risky. I didnt have to do this, however, as I was only changing trains.

Old Nadrazi Litomerice?
Title:  Old Nadrazi Litomerice?
Description:  Litomerices current Hlavni Nadrazi appears to have not always been the main station. This much older-looking station can be seen as you arrive in the yards on the edge of town, and I wonder if it was an older Hlavni.

Old Passenger Car (Club Semafor)
Title:  Old Passenger Car (Club Semafor)
Description:  Im not aware of how long this old passenger coach has been sitting here, up against the wall of the Dlouha Brana, and not too far from Hlavni Nadrazi. I wasnt able to find the number of the coach, but the nightclub who currently appear to be using it, Club Semafor, were celebrating their 40th anniversary, however.

ex-CSD Reporting Marks Plate
Title:  ex-CSD Reporting Marks Plate
Description:  One thing thats fairly easy to find on Ceske Drahy passenger coaches are these little reporting marks plates on the steps. Since the vast majority of CD stock is still left over from the Communist, and therefore CSD, days, most of these are actually CSD plates, altered in one way or another to read "CD." The purpose of these escapes me, though, as they arent particularly visible when the doors are shut, theyre not a good quick reference for passengers today since even passenger equipment in Europe is interchanged, and in any case there are far clearer markings on the sides of the cars, albeit often obscured by grafitti, at least in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

CD 714021-3
Title:  CD 714021-3
Description:  Here our train was just coming into view, allowing us also to see the ancient station building of Stara Hut, over in the distance to the right of the train. This shot I think conveys the simplicity of this station, as the only serious construction that went into it was the platform, which is so low that in the United States the train would probably be equipped with stepboxes. Czechs, however, are generally more fit than Americans.
